Kimai - Easy Time Tracking for everyone

0.8.0 out now ...

posted on 31 August, 2008 by torsten

Yeah - after almost a year since the last release and a ton of work - here it finally is.

Unfortunately, we had to make some compromises. A year sounds like a lot of time - but in fact we could have used at least two more month. Not everything has become the way it was initially planned and we had to cancel some functionality for this initial release of 0.8. But the main targets, like the splitting of functionalities into extensions or the redesign of the interface and the database connection could be achieved. We also added some nice usibility features here and there. Just to be honest - we are proud of the result ;) And we're wondering if you like it as much as we do. So get your copies and let us know what you think about it. Have Fun. See you 0.8.1 ... ;) Take me to the download page!

doesn't work for me :/
update just sends me an empty error.php file and fresh installation stops sending the full page content in step "6. database" with no error.
any ideas?

What is your configuratin? OS? PHP version? MySQL version? PDO installed? Update from 0.7.11 or 0.7.13? Did you check how your database tables look now - is there anything changed or did it just nothing? Forum is for Support... ;)

I think it's looking very good :) This is the first version that I have installed. But I am confused because in the demo and other screenshots I have seen the header contains little icons for printing etc and boxes to select the date range. But in the new version it doesn't? It only has the logout and settings button.

Is that right?

I am using Vista, WAMP Server, Apache/2.2.8 (Win32) PHP/5.2.6, PDO is installed

Also during install, after first running: http://localhost/Kimai/installer/index.php
I received the error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in C:wampwwwKimaiinstallerindex.php on line 83

I manually created the database and a user, and then manually created a conf.php file based on the file includesconf_default.php

So the site is now working but am I missing icons in the header?

Thank you.

You're right - those icons are gone. But the functionality stayed of course - what would Kimai be without a timespace selector ;)

I allways try to reduce things as much as possible. In this case I found the calendar icons where not nessesary anymore, because in earlier versions of Kimai there where form fields attached to them. This is not the case anymore - I didn't like the fiddling around with those old form fields and I wanted the timespace selecting to be done only via a comfortable date picker.

To get to the point finally ;) Just try to click the dates itself! Then a huge datepicker pops up and you can select the timespace very easily. You may encounter another thing immediately: "Why can't I select any dates here?" ...

It's simply because there is no tracking data in a fresh install. You can only select the timespace from the day your account was created to 'today'.

Regarding the errors ... We're already working on 0.8.1 and the installer will be is one of the things that needs more than only a fine-tuning... We're very aware of this after the mess we had to experience after the release...

Thanks for checking out Kimai!
